Boat helm switch/button questions?

I have an 86 sea ray seville ski boat. This is my first boat that I purchased cheaply and am doing minor work on. I have a couple of questions about the control panel at the helm.
First: what is the purpose of the buttons above the different switches, they don’t seem to do anything?
Second: There is a continous wire with leads going into the back of each button, what is it’s purpose?

1. manually reset circuit breakers.
2. if the switches are illuminated, that will be the function of the wire connected to all the switches. otherwise, you’ll just have to follow it to see where it goes.
