Maxum 1700 SR Sports Speed Boat

My Second Pre-Owned Speed Boat

Having already owned a speed boat for a few years, I had more confidence buying our second pre-owned speed boat because I knew exactly what we required. We wanted something bigger, so we could fit more people in (ideally a “bowrider” which has passenger seats in the bow as well as in the stern) with a stronger, more reliable engine.

Obviously such a boat would cost considerably more than my first pre-owned speed boat and I watched lots of eBay auctions rise above our budget. But eventually I was able to buy a Maxum 1700 SR Sport at a very reasonable price because it hadn’t been listed very well. The photos used in the listing weren’t very flattering and it didn’t seem to be attracting as much interest as other auctions.

So here’s a tip: when buying a pre-owned speed boat on eBay BE PATIENT. Watch lots of auctions and wait for your chance to grab a bargain.

This boat is powered by a Mercruiser Alpa One 3.0 litre sterndrive engine and the seller had a full service history which gave me confidence in buying this boat, particularly after the problems we had with my first pre-owned speed boat engine.

There were, however, 2 problems with this boat …

Firstly, whilst our Vauxhall Zafira had easily towed my first pre-owned speed boat, this boat was bigger and heavier. However, our Vauxhall Zafira was becoming uneconomical to maintain so we were going to replace it anyway. So we sold it on eBay and bought a second- hand Honda CR-V on eBay which can tow this boat with ease.

The second problem is this boat is about one inch wider than my garage door so it has to stay on our drive which is a bit of a nuisance!

My Second Pre-Owned Speed Boat

Having bought 2 pre-owned speed boats on eBay, I now know how to decide what sort of pre-owned speed boat to buy and what to look for when buying a pre-owned speed boat.
